Cheers Phil. I didn’t really know what to expect but you made it super clear to understand and interesting enough that I wasn’t checking out what the birds were doing outside. Was bloody good to get the extra bit of help on the calculations unit. I’m sure a lot of us got left behind at regular school.

I found the course to be more than worthwhile for a few reasons, one being that there was definitely a few units that we covered that would've been over my head had I been trying to do them alone. I also found it beneficial to discuss with the other apprentices our experiences in the sort of work that we're doing and different terms and techniques to carry the work out . . . Phil was incredibly patient and found different ways of getting through to everyone so that no one was left behind in the theory.

The recent block course with Phil was really great, well set out and well run. Phil had a practical approach to teaching and explaining which made it easy to follow and learn. His background in building was evident as well when it came to different discussions, drawing diagrams and explaining things in further detail. I would recommend this course to any building apprentice.

Hey Phil Last week’s courses were grouse, I was pretty worried about it at first cause school was pretty mudwiggle but it was panned out ideal, learnt heaps over the week. Looking forward to going to site and seeing what I can remember and seeing Craig to get some signatures.

I got an extended range of knowledge about the building code and other relative relevant subjects. This has been good for me as I was recommended to come here to get the harder units done. I now have a good understanding of these units which were a bit daunting to begin with.
BenCentral Otago Carpentry Class 2019

Learner focused Training has been contracted for the 4th year to deliver Carpentry day classes to the apprentices in the Central Otago area.

 

This course has been designed to help you get through some of the trickier theory topics and areas that you might not cover in your current scope of work.

 

The classes will be held over 1 week (Monday to Friday) at the Moorings Restaurant, 15-23 Perriam Place, Mount Pisa. (see map below)

 

We will start at 9 am and finish at 4 pm each day (job and knock).

 

 

 

HOW IT WORKS

There is a PowerPoint presentation for each class which contains relevant information from your BCITO manuals and lots of photos and videos which will help you learn and start conversations.

The class is discussion-based. For these classes to work it is really important that we all talk and share what we know including our on-site experiences. Your BCITO Training Advisor will ask you oral questions as part of your assessment so we need to practice being able to give verbal answers.

We will also work through written questions together as a group. This should help you to have a full set of notes to revise from before assessment (usually the night before your BCITO Training Advisor arrives on-site).

My aim is that you leave each class with the relevant knowledge and ability to pass the assessment. 

You will be assessed by your BCITO Training Advisor on your normal 3-monthly site visit cycle.

Attending these classes will not guarantee that you pass assessment without some revision, but the vast majority of apprentices that have attended and participated in our previous classes, have said they help a lot.

Some of you may be able to access the governments “fees-free scheme” Please talk to your BCITO training advisor about whether you are eligible.

All other trainees will be required to pay BCITO course fees. Please speak with your BCITO Training Advisor for details.

 The fees are paid directly to the BCITO and can be paid as a lump sum or paid off on direct debit.
