Maori and Pasifika Learning Support Carpentry Sessions

Kia ora, Talofa, Mālō e lelei, Bula,  Kia orāna, Fakalofa lahi atu, Mālo ni, Fakatalofa atu . . . Hello.

Our Maori & Pasifika Learning Support sessions are designed to help BCITO carpentry apprentices who may be struggling with their carpentry bookwork and assessments.

If you:

  • Work better in smaller groups, a slower pace, and like to ask questions, or
  • Are not comfortable learning through traditional written resources, or
  • Find it daunting learning on your own and would like to learn with other Maori & Pasifika apprentices, or
  • Have some form of learning difficulty, or
  • Have English as your second language,

. . . these sessions may be a great option for you

We cover the core Carpentry theory topics required for your New Zealand Certificate over 3 x 10-week blocks (3 stages).

You can start with any stage (1, 2 or 3).

Classes are held weekly, after work, from 5pm-6.30pm.

Our classes are effective because we limit the class size, work at a slower pace and give ample time to allow people to ask questions and work together to find solutions. We make sure that everyone feels safe and comfortable to optimise learning in a culturally appropriate setting. They’re also fun and informative. Our aim is to cover core carpentry topics with the most jargon and difficult language as well as the mathematics sections.

All classes are online using Zoom so you can work from the comfort of your own home after a busy day at work.

You’ll need wifi, a mobile and/or computer/laptop with a working camera and sound, to join in the classes.

BCITO provides these classes for FREE to their apprentices.
